Steam train rides, speeder car demonstrations Oct. 17-18 in Carson City

Steam train rides, speeder demonstrations, a pumpkin patch and vendors all are part of the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s Harvest Train event, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 and 18 at the museum, 2180 S. Carson St. in Carson City.

Locomotive No. 25, built in 1905 for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, will run every 40 minutes beginning at 10 a.m., with a break at noon to sanitize passenger cars. The train will operate at half-capacity to allow for social distancing. Additionally, the West Coast Railroaders Group, an organization of professional railroaders that provides track car services to railroads throughout the West, will demonstrate speeders — track maintenance cars once used by track inspectors and work crews.

A pumpkin patch, vendors and the Hot Rodz Catering & Promotions food truck also will be on-site. Wristbands will be available for purchase that include museum admission and unlimited train rides. Wristband prices range from free to $15. Standard museum admission ($8, free for children ages 17 and younger), and train rides also can be bought individually.

Face coverings and social distancing is required during your visit.
